Vice Admiral Sir Ian Murray Robertson Campbell KBE CB DSO & Bar (1898–1980) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, South Atlantic Station. ==Naval career== Promoted to Captain in 1940,〔(U-boat.net )〕 Campbell served in World War II in the Arctic Convoys〔(The Arctic Convoys ) Imperial War Museum〕 commanding the destroyer HMS ''Milne'' from 1942 to 1944〔 and then becoming Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence.〔(British Naval Intelligence Papers, mainly of Donald McLachlan and Patrick Beesly )〕 He was appointed Flag Officer Liaison for the Middle East in 1950〔Whitaker's Almanack 1951〕 and Flag Officer Flotillas in the Mediterranean Fleet in 1952.〔Whitaker's Almanack 1953〕 He then became Flag Officer Commanding the Reserve Fleet in 1953〔Whitaker's Almanack 1954〕 and Commander-in-Chief, South Atlantic Station in 1954〔Whitaker's Almanack 1955〕 before retiring in 1956.〔
